As the curtain falls on another thrilling football season, Hoddesdon Town Football Club is delighted to announce a landmark development that could reshape the future of our club and the sporting landscape of our local community for generations to come.
We are incredibly proud to share the news that Hoddesdon Town Football Club—working in close partnership with Hoddesdon Cricket Club—has been selected as the preferred joint tenant for a brand-new, purpose-built multi-sport facility at High Leigh. This decision, confirmed by Broxbourne Borough Council, marks the beginning of a potentially transformative journey for both clubs and for grassroots sport in Hoddesdon.
The opportunity emerged in December 2024, when Broxbourne Borough Council issued a call for expressions of interest from local clubs to become the main tenant—or co-tenants—of a state-of-the-art new sports hub being planned as part of wider development at High Leigh. From the moment the invitation was made public, we at Hoddesdon Town FC recognised the potential magnitude of what was on offer—not just for our own club, but for the entire local sporting community.
In January 2025, following productive discussions and a shared vision for community sport, we submitted a joint proposal alongside Hoddesdon Cricket Club. After a comprehensive review process, we are thrilled to confirm that our submission is the one the Council wishes to take forward.
This project carries with it a significant commitment to sport in the borough, backed by a proposed development budget of up to £1.5 million, allocated by the site’s developers. The centrepiece of the proposal is a brand-new pavilion facility at High Leigh, designed to serve the needs of both football and cricket in a modern, inclusive, and accessible environment.
But that’s not all.
In a hugely encouraging move, the developers have also expressed no objection in principle to a portion of the funding being directed toward supporting improvement works at our beloved home ground, Lowfield. While the primary focus remains the High Leigh pavilion, the flexibility offered in the funding approach opens up exciting possibilities for enhancements that could benefit our teams, our supporters, and our wider club family for years to come.
In short, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity—one that could redefine our infrastructure, expand our reach, and secure a sustainable, long-term future for Hoddesdon Town Football Club.
The next stage in the process will see us engage in informal discussions with Broxbourne Borough Council and the developers in the coming weeks. These conversations will include a detailed review of the proposed pavilion plans and consideration of the logistical, financial, and planning aspects of the wider project. We are committed to working closely and collaboratively with all partners to ensure the best outcomes for our members, players, supporters, and the broader community.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to Hoddesdon Cricket Club for their shared commitment and enthusiasm throughout the application process. Our partnership on this project reflects the strength and spirit of local sport in our town—and we look forward to continuing this collaboration as plans progress.
Naturally, an initiative of this scale will require the energy, creativity, and support of our entire club community. Over the coming weeks, we will begin forming a number of working groups to support different aspects of the project, including planning and design, funding and sponsorship, logistics and communications, and more.

This moment represents far more than a change of scenery—it is a powerful statement of intent about the kind of future we want to build for Hoddesdon Town FC. A future where we have the facilities and infrastructure to match our ambition. A future where our youth teams, senior sides, and volunteers have access to the best possible environment. A future where our club not only thrives on the pitch, but continues to grow as a community hub off it.
We understand how important our home at Lowfield is to so many of our members, supporters, and volunteers, and we want to assure you that Lowfield will remain an integral part of our identity moving forward. The possibility of investment in both our existing ground and the new facility gives us the unique opportunity to expand and enhance our footprint, supporting a range of footballing activities and ensuring that the club can meet the demands of future growth.
As ever, we are grateful to all our supporters for your continued backing, loyalty, and belief in what we do. It is thanks to your passion and commitment that our club continues to grow and move forward—and we’re excited to take you with us on this next chapter.
We will continue to keep you fully updated as this exciting venture progresses. For now, we ask you to share in our excitement, and to join us in seizing this historic opportunity with open arms.
This is a new era for Hoddesdon Town Football Club. With your help, it will be one defined by growth, ambition, and unity.
