Youth Section Fun Day Attracts Bumper Crowd

Hundreds Of Players, Parents & Coaches Descend on Lowfield

'Thank you to everyone today, it was just a fabulous club community spirit all round. What a fab day!'
- Victoria Capone - Hoddesdon Town Youth FC

One of the largest crowds of the season came to Hoddesdon Town FC this Sunday, as Hoddesdon Town Youth FC hosted a family fun day, coupled with a Coaches and Parents match on the hallowed turf.

Highlights on the day included a Club Legends photo shoot, where over 100 youth players and coaches had their photos taken in front of a green screen to create custom graphics and images, and even some of our first team players took the opportunity to get their photo taken!! Look out for some of those images appearing on this website and on our social media channels (follow us on X HERE)

The FREE boot exchange also proved a massive success, with over THIRTY pairs of outgrown boots rehomed!

The Tea Bar was working overtime, keeping everyone warm with hot drinks and burgers, and the bar inside proved extremely popular with mums and dads enjoying our new range of draught products, including Cruzcampo Lager, Inch's Cider and Greene Kings famous Ice Breaker Pale Ale.

The football match kicked off at 2pm and was the Main Event of the afternoon.

Before the game, a minutes silence was observed for Remembrance Sunday and all those who gave their lives for us.

The great and the good of Hoddesdon Town Youth FC were on display, including the likes of Secretary Peter Alligan, Under 11s Manager Alfi Myers who impressed between the sticks and Under 10s Coach Rob Kelly. Fan favourite Santo Padalino managed the Over 10's side whilst Scott Banks patrolled the opposition dugout, managing the Under 10's representatives.

The game was officiated by the firm but fair Gary Stringer, whose confident and minimal fuss display meant there was no need for any VAR interventions.

The Over 10's side triumphed in the end by a score of 7 goals to 2 meaning the bumper crowd was treated to a 9 goal thriller. Safe to say, there will be a lot of aching muscles on Monday morning, and we ask you all to pray for the coaches and parents who put their bodies on the line in the name of entertainment.

A big thank you also to senior players Liam Nugent and Harrison Cage for picking up the flags and running the line for a large part of the match. Hopefully, an experience that will teach them that it's not the easiest job in the world!

The half time entertainment was provided by First Team Goalkeeper Liam Nugent, who donned the gloves and faced what was probably over 100 penalty kicks from the various youth team players, all of them showing off their dead ball skills in an attempt to beat the senior stopper from 12 yards. Even some of the senior club representatives had a go at beating Liam from the spot, with club Digital Media Chairman Jon Dean cooly slotting the ball past the hapless Nugent, celebrating like he had just clinched the World Cup for England. Unfortunately, Club Welfare Officer Paul Sullivan put his effort wide of the post, to the delight of the watching crowd.

This was followed by an autograph signing session, where the young Lilywhite players got the chance to meet some of the first team players, including Blue Gallagher, Connor Bolton, Narcis Filip, Harrison Cage and of course, Liam Nugent, and get their picture postcards signed. You can grab your own copies of our new postcards by clicking HERE.

The raffle was won by none other than the match referee, Gary Stringer, much to the dissatisfaction of all those in attendance.

The afternoon was topped off back in the clubhouse as Chelsea and Manchester City locked horns in the Premier League, playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw on the big screens and providing a fitting end to the days activities.

Club Photographer Danny Smith was on hand to capture all the action and his photos are now available to view HERE

Hoddesdon Town Football Club congratulate the Youth Section on a wonderful afternoon at Lowfield and would like to thank everyone involved. Special mentions to Peter Alligan, Victoria Capone, Alfi Myers and John Bonus for organising such a brilliant event and we would also like to thank our club Welfare Officer, Paul Sullivan, who made sure everybody was kept safe and sound for the entire afternoon.

Club Chairman Stuart Varney and Vice Chairman Roger Merton MBE were also in attendance and commented on how impressed they were with the event and how good it was to see Lowfield thriving and being enjoyed by so many people.

As the Senior Club looks to develop and cement its relationship with the wider community, having such close contacts and good relationships with our Youth Section means the future of Lowfield and Hoddesdon Town Football Club is a bright one. We hope that many of the children in attendance at todays event will go on to play senior football at Lowfield and represent the club in that famous white shirt.

Thank you for a brilliant afternoon.

Come On You Lilywhites!!
