Friday Night Football Comes To Lowfield

CLICK HERE FOR THE OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

It's an early start to the weekend for the Lilywhites as we host May & Baker at home in the league on Friday evening (17th).

With just 72 hours separating Hoddesdon from their previous game on Tuesday night, it will be interesting to see how the side cope with the demands of a Friday fixture. Last time out, Hoddesdon defeated Hertford Heath in an enthralling cup tie at The recreation Ground, St Margaretsbury, via a 4-2 penalty shoot out win. 90 minutes could not separate the sides after a 2-2 draw, but fortunately for the Lilywhites, the game went straight to the shoot out with no extra time.

These two sides last clashed back on the 25th of August, with May & Baker running out 3-1 winners at Aveley FC's Parkside Stadium. In that game, Hoddesdon lead for the majority of the game courtesy of a Narcis Filip strike, but all the good work was undone with goals conceded in the 69th, 71st and 95th minute, condemning us to a cruel defeat. The 47 people in attendance that evening saw a bit of a collapse from the Hoddesdon side and hopefully the lads can see us through this time around on home turf.

May & Baker currently occupy 20th position in the Thurlow Nunn Division 1 South, with 17 points from 14 games played. From their 6 away games so far this season, they have lost 4, drawn 1 and won 1 so Hoddesdon will hope they can make Lowfield an intimidating place to visit and put their opponents to the sword, gaining some revenge for that early season defeat. May & Baker have scored 6 and conceded 11 goals on their travels thus far.

Gabriel Odili heads the scoring charts for the visitors, netting an impressive 12 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions, which includes 3 penalties. Captain Anthony Cook will no doubt have an influence on proceedings, but with 5 yellow cards in 15 appearances this season, it is currently unclear whether he is available for the Friday night clash.

In recent games, Hoddesdon have relied on their defence for their attack, with Jack Riddle netting 3 goals in the last 2 games and captain Jack Gibbs finding the net twice. Players in the forward positions will be hoping they can also start contributing and the home crowd would be delighted to see goals from the likes of Filip, Bolton, Rankin, Clarke or Eden. New signing Dion Laughton, who bagged a brace on his debut away to Enfield Borough last weekend, missed the midweek cup game due to non availability, and so the Lilywhite fans will be hoping that he can have an equally impressive performance on his home debut.

A win for Hoddesdon would carry them to the dizzy heights of 13th position, all be it a day before any of their competitors have kicked a ball in anger.

With a local Friday game under the lights, the game is sure to attract a large crowd so please arrive early. On street parking around the ground is fairly restricted so we advise parking outside the ground where there are NO double yellow lines (wardens do operate in the area) or at The Spotlight Car Park, which is a short 3 minute walk from the ground and has 90 free car parking spaces.
